After graduation from Wheat Ridge, I obtained my education from BYU in Provo, UT in teaching blind and visually impaired. I began work at the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, during which time I married my eternal companion, DeVon Nielsen, in 1968. We have 5 children, with 4 grandchildren, and currently 5 foster grandchildren. We live in Layton, UT and will celebrate our 40th anniversary this June. I retired at the end of December after 30 years with the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. The last 14 years were serving as Director of the Parent Infant Program, which provides statewide services to families of infants and toddlers birth to three with vision or hearing loss.
My assistant and I joined efforts, with input from our staff, and published the "ViSioN Program: Vision Skills in the Natural Environment", an intervention guide for children birth to three years of age with vision loss. The "ViSioN Program" has sold worldwide and has provided me with numerous training opportunities throughout the nation.
I look forward to the reunion to renew friendships from the past.
