After a year at Southern Methodist University, I came home to the University of Colorado. I met Dennis, my husband, there and when he graduated we left Colorado for what would end up being 35 years. We lived in Houston, then Charlotte (where our daughter Nancy was born), Chicago (where our son Mike was born) and 30 years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
I finished my BA at The University of Pittsburgh in 1973, and after a few years at home with babies, it was great to find out my brain still worked. Over the years I did a lot of volunteering, was a professional wallpaper hanger and then got into sales. My dream had been to be a teacher, but that was derailed when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1974. So I kept busy, raised kids, and worked when I could.
Denny taught me to play bridge when we were dating, and it has become my passion. When Denny retired and we moved back to Colorado in 2001, my interest in bridge took a commercial turn. I developed a line of bridge tallies and score pads which I sell online at http://www.designbybird.net. It's fun so far and I have enough orders to keep me busy.
We found a terrific home in Castle Rock, with lots of windows and a great view of the mountains we missed for so long. We have met the most incredible people in Castle Rock, which is stubbornly clinging to staying a small town. Denny and I have started playing Duplicate Bridge, mostly in Colorado Springs, and we're well on our way to becoming Life Masters. Denny's passion is golf, so our bridge playing is limited some during golf season.
We love being back in Colorado. We still have a lot of family here, and our kids moved here before we were able to. I'm looking forward to our Wheat Ridge reunion, and have enjoyed working on the reunion committee. See you all then!!
